The Role of Global Civil Society in Achieving & Supporting Global Peace and Security
Study and Action Partner Cora Weiss has spent her life in the movements for human rights, civil rights, women’s empowerment and peace. She is President of the Hague Appeal for Peace that brought 10,000 people together, in May 1999, for the largest civil society peace conference in history. She was also one of the organizers of the June 12, 1982 nuclear disarmament rally that gathered more than 1,000,000 people in NYC’s Central Park. U.S. House of Representatives Creates Requirement That There Be Some Basis for Any Foreign Bases

The U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment to the “National Defense Authorization Act” introduced by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar requiring that the U.S. military provide Congress with the cost and the supposed national security benefits of every foreign military base or foreign military operation. World BEYOND War had flooded Congressional offices with the demand for Yes votes.

Now, as the House and Senate reconcile their two versions of the bill, they need to know that we want this amendment left in it. Learn more. If you are from the U.S., click here to email your Congress Members.

Can we put a peace billboard in your town?

We’ve put up a lot of billboards! But, increasingly, around the world, billboard and other big advertising companies are declaring that any message for peace is “political” and forbidden. If you can find a company in your town that will accept billboards or public transportation ads for peace, please let us know.
