A team of peace activists has helped to establish Soto de Luiña as an International City of Peace, the first in Spain. Pictured above are: (Back) Tim Pluta (World BEYOND War) and Patricia Pérez; (front) Marisa de la Rúa Rico and Lidia Jaldo.
Soto de Luiña in Cudillero, Asturias, is an autonomous community in Northern Spain. The town is along the famous pilgrimage route, Camino de Santiago. Soto de Luiña is a town with a long history as a welcoming refuge for pilgrims. The town offered a public hostel as early as the 15th century, and although it is no longer operational, that caring is still reflected in the community, which welcomes newcomers, be they temporary or new neighbors.
An International City of Peace is a city that formally applies to join a list of over 300 designated cities of peace around the world. Here’s a map.
We hope this successful effort will be duplicated by World BEYOND War chapters everywhere!

The word “hostel” in the middle of the second paragraph should read “hospital”.
Sorry for the error. Tim
