Le samedi 27 janvier 2024 s’est déroulée la première rencontre du Forum National des Jeunes pour la Paix et la Sécurité.

Les participants se sont retrouvés en après-midi au Centre Socioculturel Ngor pour écouter la présentation de Bamba Bathily sur la Paix numérique en période pré et post-électorale.

Bamba avait proposé son projet lors des sélections pour le Forum National des Jeunes pour la Paix et la Sécurité (FNJPS), et il semblait important de mettre l’accent sur cet aspect numérique de la Paix, car les réseaux sociaux sont très utilisés actuellement à l’approche de l’élection présidentielle qui aura lieu le 25 février 2024.

La présentation de Bamba a été extrêmement détaillée et nous avons parlé de :

• Désinformation;
• Fake news;
• Deep fake;
• Propagation de la haine;

Les participants ont activement participé à l’atelier en posant de nombreuses questions, et Bamba a offert des solutions concrètes afin de se protéger au mieux des personnes malveillantes sévissant sur internet.

L’importance cruciale d’une éducation à la Paix numérique a été rappelée et tous les membres du groupe ont appuyé le fait que cela devrait faire partie de l’enseignement scolaire tant primaire que secondaire.

En deuxième partie d’après-midi, un atelier a été proposé qui a très simplement mis en évidence les risques de propagation de messages erronés sur les réseaux sociaux.

Une brève histoire était partagée par un participant dans le creux de l’oreille d’une autre personne, qui elle-même partageait l’histoire dans le creux de l’oreille de la personne suivante, et ainsi de suite jusqu’au dernier participant qui disait alors à haute voix ce qu’il avait entendu.

Des rires ont éclaté lorsque les différences entre les deux versions ont été constatées !

Dans ce contexte amical, aucun dommage n’a été causé bien sûr, mais preuve était faite des risques réels encourus par les messages repostés, propagés, déformés, amplifiés, sur les médias sociaux.

Puis, la journée s’est terminée en partageant une légère collation et en se disant à la prochaine!

On Saturday 27 January 2024, Senegal for a World BEYOND War held its first meeting of the National Youth Forum for Peace and Security.

Participants met in the afternoon at the Centre Socioculturel Ngor to listen to Bamba Bathily’s presentation on Digital Peace in the pre- and post-electoral period.

Bamba had proposed his project during the selections for the National Youth Forum for Peace and Security (NYFPS), and it seemed important to focus on this digital aspect of Peace, as social networks are currently very much in use in the run-up to the presidential election to be held on February 25, 2024.

Bamba’s presentation was extremely detailed and covered:

• Disinformation;
• Fake news;
• Deep fake;
• Hate propaganda;
• Phishing.

Participants took an active part in the workshop, asking many questions, and Bamba offered concrete solutions to best protect oneself from malicious people on the Internet.

The crucial importance of digital peace education was reiterated, and all group members supported the view that this should be part of both primary and secondary school education.

In the second half of the afternoon, a workshop was held to highlight the risks of spreading false messages on social networks.

A short story was shared by one participant in the ear of another, who in turn shared the story in the ear of the next person, and so on down to the last participant, who then said aloud what he or she had heard.

Laughter erupted when the differences between the two versions were revealed!

No harm was done in this friendly atmosphere, of course, but the real risks involved in reposting, spreading, distorting and amplifying messages on social media were demonstrated.

The day ended with a light snack and a catch-up!
