Inevitable?

As a part of a the Korea Peace Appeal campaign supporting the Korean churches in their advocacy efforts, and to recognize and celebrate Women's Month in March, the screening of the documentary “Crossings” will be held at the Ecumenical Centre on Tuesday, 21 March.

The film, directed by Emmy-award-winning filmmaker Deann Borshay Liem, explores enduring questions about war's legacies on the Korean Peninsula and the significant and inspiring role women play in resolving the world's most intractable conflicts.

The screening will begin at 16:00 on Tuesday, 21 March, in Visser’t Hooft Hall, followed by a panel discussion around the issue of the impact of war and conflict on women and their role in the peacebuilding process at 18:00.

Through a creative storytelling window, the documentary will recognize and celebrate women’s involvement in the peace process on Korean peninsula.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the 1953 Korea Armistice Agreement, which unfortunately did not formally end the war but instead served as a lamentable backdrop to division and ongoing tension. The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) has been leading the Korea Peace Appeal  campaign for over a year now, drawing global participation and stirring hope and new resolve among many.

This event is organized by Women Cross DMZ (WCDMZ), Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Nobel Women's Initiative (NWI) and Korean Women's Movement for Peace (KWMP).
