Eighth International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases Held in Cuba

The Eighth International Seminar for Peace and the abolition of foreign military bases was held in the city of Guantánamo, Cuba, from May 4 to 5. It was organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and the World Peace Council (CMP).

The event began with a floral offering in the Plaza Mariana Grajales, followed by greetings from of local authorities, academics, the president of ICAP Fernando González Llort, and the Executive Secretary of the CMP.

Attendees were able to learn about the consequences of the presence in Guantanamo Bay of the United States Army, which has illegally occupied this territory since 1903. World BEYOND War, made its presentation through organizer for Latin America Gabriel Aguirre, who highlighted the hard research work that the global movement has carried out, for the development of the map on military bases, as well as the map of militarism, and highlighted the various campaigns that have been undertaken by WBW for the closure of all military bases in any corner of the world.

During the presentations of the attendees, the importance of maintaining very active solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the current genocide that is occurring in Gaza was recalled.
