Cuba Reaffirms its Solidarity with the Struggle of the Palestinian People — And with Students in the United States

At the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba taking place in Havana today, May 2nd, some 1,144 participants representing 54 countries affirmed their solidarity with Palestine and opposition to the genocide occurring in the Gaza Strip.

A number of participants in the event, during their presentations, have highlighted the importance of expanding solidarity at this time to Palestine, demanding an immediate ceasefire, and stopping the massacre that has claimed the lives of more than 35,000 people.

Cuba has expressed its unconditional solidarity, as well as firm condemnation of the genocide in Palestine. During the event it reaffirmed that today Cuba is a country where thousands of young Palestinians come to study medicine and other university degrees and then return to their country and help in the development of their people.

During today’s event, President Díaz Canel also took the opportunity to mention his solidarity with young students in the United States, who have raised their voices to denounce what is happening in Palestine as well as to demand that universities stop funding Israel.

During his speech he also took the opportunity to ask that the Palestinian State be recognized by the United Nations and its right to exist as a free and independent nation be defended.

 

 

 

The following day, organizations reaffirmed their commitment to peace in Cuba. As part of the activities carried out in Cuba, a meeting of solidarity was held by social and popular organizations that work for peace and defend the sovereignty of the people.

World BEYOND War reiterated during the event,its maximum commitment to building a world of peace, solidarity, and social justice, which is why it is necessary to end all wars.

The event also served to express solidarity with Cuba, reject the criminal blockade, and demand that Cuba be removed from the U.S. list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

The working panel was led by the President of the Republic Miguel Díaz Canel, by hero of the Republic of Cuba Fernando González Llort, and by other authorities of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
