By Code Pink, April 15, 2021

On Tuesday, April 13, Medea Benjamin, Marcy Winograd, and Hanieh Jodat-Barnes were joined by three special guests for a conversation on closing US military bases abroad:

David Vine, professor and author, Base Nation: How U.S. Military Bases Abroad Harm America and the World, will update us on the work of the Overseas Base Realignment and Closure Coalition.

Christine Ahn, founder of Women Cross DMZ, a global movement to end the Korean War, will discuss growing momentum to close hundreds of US bases overseas.

Robert Kajiwara, founder and president of the Peace For Okinawa Coalition, will talk about opposition to a massive military construction project on the Japanese island of Okinawa.

In February, the Biden administration launched a review of the US military’s global presence. That review, slated for completion by mid-2021, comes as the administration shifts its imperial focus from the Middle East to Asia, where, according to the German press, the Pentagon plans to invest $27 billion to station medium-range missiles off China.
