Individual War Abolisher Award of 2023 Goes to Sultana Khaya

World BEYOND War has given its 2023 Individual War Abolisher award to Sultana Khaya, a Saharawi nonviolent human rights activist from Western Sahara. Khaya has been a phenomenally courageous leader in resisting the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and in making the wider world aware of that ongoing occupation.

At the hands of Moroccan occupation agents, Khaya has had her eye bludgeoned out of its socket, has been hit in the head with rocks, has been injected with unknown substances, raped, beaten, and held under house arrest where she was terrorized for over 500 Days with her sister and mother. Surrounded by the Moroccan occupation forces, Khaya did not go silent. She staged protests on the roof of her house. She invited witnesses from around the world, snuck them into her house, and — together with them — spoke to the world’s media and anyone who would listen.

Sultana’s courage in speaking of her rape is rare, but she is the first to say that brutal attacks by the Moroccan occupation forces have not only happened to her, but are methodically practiced as sexual and other forms of torture on much of the population of the Saharawi people. Sultana has maintained her nonviolent resistance and insists that Western Saharans be allowed to exercise their legal right to vote for independence or to live under the rule of another government, and that they be allowed to live in their own country with basic human rights, education of their own design, and access to public health care.

The Moroccan occupation is supported politically, economically, and militarily, by the U.S. government and by the Israeli government, which is engaged in a similar occupation of Palestine.

Sultana has lived her entire life under the oppressive Moroccan regime, suffering and struggling to resolve this conflict with the use of nonviolence. She is now in Spain for medical treatment, where she continues to advocate relentlessly for an end to the occupation of Western Sahara.

World BEYOND War has just posted a video of an awards presentation conducted over Zoom. In it, Sultana Khaya says: “Thank you, and please accept my heartfelt gratitude to the World BEYOND War organization, as well as all international civil society that supports the Saharawi people in their just cause and belief in peace and justice for all.

“I accept this honor on behalf of all Saharawis, particularly Saharawi women who are continually targeted by Moroccan occupation forces! I also dedicate this prize to the oppressed Palestinian people. Tell them that we support them and that we share the same occupation.

“Finally, I urge you and all those who advocate for human rights and freedom to step up our efforts and demand the release of all Saharawi political detainees in Moroccan jails. I appreciate you once more for your efforts to create a better world free of oppression, injustice, and humankind’s devastating weapons.”

The award is presented to Khaya in the video by World BEYOND War’s Mohhamed Abunahel from Palestine. Khaya remarks: “We reject occupation. We stand in solidarity with all peoples seeking freedom, particularly the Palestinian and Saharawi peoples.”

Sultana Khaya is the second annual recipient of the Individual War Abolisher Award. The Individual War Abolisher of 2022 award went to New Zealand filmmaker William Watson in recognition of his film Soldiers Without Guns: An Untold Story of Unsung Kiwi Heroes. Watch it here. The 2021 awards, which were the first, did not include the individual award.

There are four recipients of War Abolisher awards in 2023. The other three are:

Australian filmmaker David Bradbury, recipient of the David Hartsough Individual Lifetime War Abolisher Award of 2023.

Australian war abolitionist organization Wage Peace Australia, recipient of the Organizational War Abolisher Award of 2023.

Argentinian Peace advocates Fundación Mil Milenios de Paz, recipient of the Organizational Lifetime War Abolisher Award of 2023.

All of the awardees are honored for their body of work directly supporting one or more of the three segments of World BEYOND War’s strategy for reducing and eliminating war as outlined in the book A Global Security System, An Alternative to War. They are: Demilitarizing Security, Managing Conflict Without Violence, and Building a Culture of Peace.

الفائزة بجائزة بطل الحرب الفردية لعام 2023 هي سلطانة خايا

تتشرف منظمة “عالم بدون حرب” بتقديم جائزة “مناهضة الحرب الفردية لعام 2023” لـسلطانة خيا. نعتقد أن الكثير من الناس يجب أن يعرفوا قصتها وقصة مقاومة االلاعنف ضد الاحتلال المغربي للصحراء الغربية.

سلطانة خيا، ناشطة صحراوية في مجال حقوق الإنسان و اللاعنف في الصحراء الغربية المحتلة، وهي المستعمرة الإسبانية السابقة في شمال غرب أفريقيا. لقد عملت بلا كلل على مدى سنوات في ظل قمع وعنف وحشي من طرف الاحتلال المغربي.

تعرضت سلطانة للكثير من الاعتداءات على أيدي أجهزة الاحتلال المغربية، بما في ذلك الضرب على رأسها بالحجارة وقلع عينها، وتم حقنها بمواد مجهولة التركيب. وتعرضت للاغتصاب والضرب. وتم حبسها بالمنزل بشكل تعسفي وغير قانوني، وتعرضت للترويع لأكثر من 500 يوم مع شقيقتها ووالدتها. وعلى الرغم من حصار منزلها من قبل قوات الاحتلال المغربي، لم تصمت خيا، بل قامت بتنظيم احتجاجات سلمية على سطح منزلها، ودعت شهودًا من جميع أنحاء العالم، وبالتعاون معهم، نقُلت رسالتها إلى وسائل الإعلام العالمية و إلى كل من يرغب في الاستماع إليها.

تحافظ سلطانة على مقاومة اللاعنف، وتطالب على أن يتمكن الصحراويين بممارسة حقهم القانوني في تقرير المصير من أجل الاستقلال، والعيش في وطنهم بحقوقهم الإنسانية الأساسية والحصول علي تعليم بمناهجهم والحصول على الرعاية الصحية العامة.

الاحتلال المغربي مدعوم سياسيًا واقتصاديًا وعسكريًا من قبل حكومة الولايات المتحدة وحكومة إسرائيل، التي تشارك في احتلال مماثل لفلسطين.

عاشت سلطانة طوال حياتها تحت نظام المغرب القمعي، تعاني وتكافح لحل هذا الصراع باستخدام جميع وسائل اللاعنف. حاليًا توجَد في إسبانيا لتلقي العلاج الطبي، حيث تواصل نضالها بلا كلل من أجل إنهاء احتلال الصحراء الغربية.

لشجاعتها وصمودها وتضحياتها الكثيرة في مواجهة الظلم المغربي القاسي، ولكونها مثالًا مشرقًا لأحد أركان السلام في “عالم بدون حرب”، في إدارة الصراع بدون عنف، نقدم جائزة “مناهضة الحرب الفردية لعام 2023” لسلطانة خيا من الصحراء الغربية.

شكرا لكم، وأرجو أن تتقبلوا امتناني الصادق لمنظمة عالم بدون حرب وجميع المنظمات الدولية والمجتمع المدني على دعهم للشعب الصحراوي في قضيتهم العادلة وعلى ايمناهم بالسلام والعدالة للجميع.

أقبل هذا التكريم نيابة عن جميع الشعب الصحراوي، وخاصة النساء الصحراويات اللاتي يتعرضن باستمرار لاستهداف من قوات الاحتلال المغربية. أهدي هذه الجائزة أيضًا للشعب الفلسطيني المظلوم. قولوا لهم أننا ندعمهم ونتشارك معهم بنفس الاحتلال.

أخيرًا، أحثكم وأحث جميع الذين ينادون بحقوق الإنسان والحرية على أن تعززوا جهودنا، وتطالبوا بالإفراج عن جميع المعتقلين السياسيين الصحراويين في سجون المغرب. أقدر لكم جهودكم مجددا لخلق عالمٍ أفضل خالٍ من القمع والظلم والأسلحة المدمرة للبشرية.

El Premio Individual War Abolisher de 2023 es para Sultana Khaya

World BEYOND War se complace en presentar el premio Individual War Abolisher 2023 a Sultana Khaya.  Creemos que muchas más personas deberían conocer su historia y la historia de la resistencia noviolenta a la ocupación marroquí del Sáhara Occidental.

Sultana Khaya es una activista saharaui no violenta de derechos humanos del Sáhara Occidental, la antigua colonia española en el norte de África.  Ha trabajado incansablemente durante años en medio de la opresión brutal y violenta ejercida por el gobierno marroquí.

A manos de agentes del gobierno marroquí, a Khaya le arrancaron el ojo a golpes, le golpearon en la cabeza con piedras, le inyectaron sustancias desconocidas, la violaron, la golpearon y la mantuvieron bajo arresto domiciliario donde la aterrorizaron durante más de  500 Días con su hermana y su madre.  Rodeada por el ejército marroquí, Khaya no se quedó callada.  Ella organizó protestas en el techo de su casa.  Invitó a testigos de todo el mundo, los metió a escondidas en su casa y, junto con ellos, habló con los medios de comunicación del mundo y con cualquiera que quisiera escuchar.

El coraje de Sultana al hablar de su violación es raro, pero es la primera en decir que los ataques brutales del ejército marroquí no solo le han sucedido a ella, sino que se practican metódicamente como tortura sexual y otras formas de tortura en gran parte de la población saharaui.  gente.  Sultana ha mantenido su resistencia no violenta e insiste en que se permita a los saharauis occidentales ejercer su derecho legal a votar por la independencia o vivir bajo el gobierno de otro gobierno, y que se les permita vivir en su propio país con derechos humanos básicos, educación de  su propio diseño, y el acceso a la sanidad pública.

La ocupación marroquí cuenta con el apoyo político, económico y militar del gobierno de los Estados Unidos y del gobierno de Israel, que está involucrado en una ocupación similar de Palestina.

Sultana ha vivido toda su vida bajo el opresivo régimen marroquí, sufriendo y luchando para resolver este conflicto con el uso de la no violencia.  Ahora se encuentra en España para recibir tratamiento médico, donde continúa abogando sin descanso por el fin de la ocupación del Sáhara Occidental.

Por su valentía, compasión y sacrificio extremo frente a la cruel injusticia, y por ser un brillante ejemplo de uno de los pilares de paz de World BEYOND War, Manejar conflictos sin violencia, presentamos el premio Individual War Abolisher 2023 a Sultana Khaya de Western  Sáhara.

“Gracias y acepte mi más sincero agradecimiento a la organización World BEYOND War, así como a toda la sociedad civil internacional que apoya al pueblo saharaui en su justa causa y creencia en la paz y la justicia para todos.

“Finalmente, le insto a usted y a todos aquellos que defienden los derechos humanos y la libertad a que intensifiquemos nuestros esfuerzos y exijamos la liberación de todos los presos políticos saharauis en las cárceles marroquíes. Les agradezco una vez más sus esfuerzos para crear un mundo mejor libre de opresión.  , la injusticia y las armas devastadoras de la humanidad.

World BEYOND War es un movimiento global no violento, fundado en 2014, para poner fin a la guerra y establecer una paz justa y sostenible.  El propósito de los premios es honrar y fomentar el apoyo a quienes trabajan para abolir la institución de la guerra misma.  Con el Premio Nobel de la Paz y otras instituciones nominalmente enfocadas en la paz que honran con tanta frecuencia otras buenas causas o, de hecho, apuestas de guerra, World BEYOND War pretende que sus premios vayan a educadores o activistas que avancen de manera intencional y efectiva la causa de la abolición de la guerra, logrando  reducciones en la realización de guerras, los preparativos de guerra o la cultura de guerra.  World BEYOND War recibió cientos de impresionantes nominaciones.  La Junta de Guerra de World BEYOND, con la asistencia de su Junta Asesora, hizo las selecciones.
