Flyers Handed Out to Oppenheimer Viewers Expanded Their Understanding

World BEYOND War Board Member Donnal Walter and World BEYOND War affiliate Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice recently handed out flyers and talked with moviegoers at a theater screening Oppenheimer. They shared this useful information:

Riverdale 10 VIP Cinema has graciously allowed ACPJ to hand out information to movie-goers who wish to learn more about nuclear weapons.
As you watch the movie, we invite you to consider:

• The Trinity test left a terrible legacy, causing cancer among the communities downwind.
• Evidence is strong that nuclear weapons ending World War II is a myth.
• The risk of nuclear weapons use is higher than ever.
• There is no evidence nuclear weapons prevented major conflict or a third world war.
• Nations with nuclear weapons are wasting billions each year on their arsenals.
• Nuclear weapons today have much greater destructive power than the first bombs in 1945.
• You can’t uninvent nuclear weapons, but you can reject them.
• It is true that the horrific impact of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings created the nuclear taboo that has helped prevent the further use of nuclear weapons
• But deterrence does not ensure that nuclear weapons will never be used.
• The risk of nuclear weapons being used, whether deliberately, by accident, or miscalculation is real.
