A military veteran, Paul Atwood is the author of “War and Empire: The American Way of Life” (2010, London, Pluto Press), and editor of “Sticks and Stones: Living With Uncertain Wars”. Now retired, he taught at the University of Massachusetts Boston for more than 30 years and still teaches courses on U.S. foreign policy and was also a principal founder of the William Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences at UMB.
In this 1-hour webinar co-hosted by the WBW Florida chapter and Veterans For Peace Chapter 136, Paul examined the real reasons that the U.S. has gone to war, using an example from the first named war in North America and then the war in the Pacific against the Japanese.
Paul discussed how all U.S. wars since the Korean war have been premised on the same essential motives. He concluded with an analysis of the current war in Ukraine and the issues and dangers to our global collective future.
