How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)? / ¿Cómo te involucraste con el activismo contra la guerra y con World BEYOND War (WBW)?
World BEYOND War’s Organizer for Latin America, Gabriel Aguirre, contacted me, some time ago, because I was working at the forefront for human rights from the critical perspective of advocating for a more humane world. I attended some online activities and that dynamic that somehow transforms the aggressive discourse of wars hooked me to investigate further. From my country of Venezuela we need to renew that culture of love, that culture of peace. We have years of history facing violence. It can be said that our people were in different moments and situations of resistance, from the Spanish colonization, through financial blockades, our people lived in a silent internal war from the 40s to the 80s, in search of independence, between dictators and traitors who did not let us flourish. There were many massacres and cases of torture that have still not come to light. People need to understand the importance of peace, and what is war. Wars are sold to us as social conflicts when in reality they are originated by particular interests. Our generations to come are often alienated to prepare the wars of the future, although we do not see it today. Children are dying in Palestine, blockades and sanctions are being imposed against countries, causing hunger, yet the power holders control the media and dominate the networks, in order to dominate us all. That is why I think that from WBW we are in the best moment to raise our voice, to build new ways to put an end to these wars and aggressions. The world must unite in media campaigns and shout STOP FIRE, enough of so much hate.
Nuestro Organizador para America Latina, Gabriel Aguirre, me contacto, hace algun tiempo, en virtud de que vengo en la vanguardia por los derechos humanos desde la perspectiva critica a un mundo mas humano, asistí algunas actividades on line y esa dinámica que de alguna manera transforma el discurso agresor de las guerras desde la conciencia me engancho a investigar e integrarme, desde mi país se necesita renovar esa cultura de amor, esa cultura de paz, tenemos años de historia enfrentado la violencia, se puede decir que nuestro pueblo estuvo en diferentes momentos y situaciones de resistencia, desde la colonización Española, pasando por bloqueos financieros, nuestro pueblo vivio en una guerra interna silenciosa desde los años 40 a los años 80, en busqueda de una independecia, entre dictadores y traidores no nos dejaban florecer, muchas masacres y torturas que aun no salen a la luz, los pueblos necesitan enteder la importancia de la paz, y ¿ que es la guerra?, podemos notar que nos venden las guerras como conflictos sociales cuando en realidad son originadas por intereses particulares. Nuestras generaciones por venir suelen ser alienadas para preparar las guerras del futuro, aunque no lo veamos hoy mueren los niños en palestina, bloquean paises para inducir el hambre, dominan las redes, con el fin de dominarnos a todos desde algunas esferas del poder. Por eso pienso que desde WBW estamos en el mejor momento para alzar la voz, construir nuevas formas para poner fin a estas guerras y agresiones, el mundo debe unirse en campañas mediaticas y gritar ALTO AL FUEGO basta de tanto odio.
What kinds of WBW activities do you work on? / ¿En qué tipo de actividades de WBW trabajas?
Currently I am the Coordinator of the Venezuela Chapter. We are working on a campaign that will allow us to show the world that our country is a territory of peace. Since the chapter’s launch in December, despite geographical and resource difficulties, we are advancing and working on the creation of organizing structures that respond to our organic nature, which will allow us to recruit and onboard activists to the organization. We will soon host an event in one of the most important states of the country, where we will conduct training workshops on our organization and our principles of action, and thus promote the incorporation of professional volunteers in different branches that allow us to value an education on peace. Let’s make our people the epicenter to transform the thinking, without political, religious and racial divisions.
Equality is necessary to guarantee equity and justice in thinking. Our country has been hit hard but we can continue to be brothers and sisters. We are a people who have stood firm for 500 years in the face of the self-confessed victimizers who are still after our wealth and our potential. Likewise in the Venezuela chapter we are trying to involve different sectors in this process and we are going to give them the essence of Venezuela. Long live the cocoa, the drum, the desert and the sea, all in this paradise.
Actualmente Soy la Coordinadora del Capitulo Venezuela, estamos dando nuestro mejor esfuerzo a una campaña que nos permita mostrar al mundo nuestro pais como un territorio de paz. Estamos avanzando con la creacion de estructuras que responden a nuestra naturaleza organica, que nos estan permitiendo avanzar en la incorporación de activistas a la organizacion, con las dificultades geograficas y de recursos desde Diciembre a este momento hemos avanzado, reliazaremos próximamente un evento en uno de los estados del país mas importante, donde vamos a realizar talleres de formación sobre nuestra organizacion, nuestros principios de acción y así promover la incorporacion de voluntarios profesionales en diferentes ramas que nos permitan valorar una Educacion sobre la paz.Hagamos de nuestro pueblo el epicentro para transformar el pensamiento, sin divisiones politicas, religiosas, ni raciales.
La igualdad es necesaria para garantizar la equidad y la justicia al pensar, nuestro pais ha sido muy golpeado pero podemos seguir siendo hermanos. Somos un pueblo que se ha mantenido 500 años firme ante los victimarios confesos que siguen tras nuestras riquezas y nuestro potencial. De igual forma en el capitulo Venezuela estamos tratando de involucrar diferentes sectores a este proceso y una sorpresa que cuando este lista la presentaremos, vamos a darles esa esencia de Venezuela. Que viva el cacao el tambor, el desierto y el mar todo en este paraiso.
What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW? / ¿Cuál es su principal recomendación para alguien que quiera involucrarse en el activismo contra la guerra y WBW?
Realize that there are people in the world organized and shouting that we want to stay alive in a world without hatred and full of tolerance. Let’s make our differences our best virtue. Do not fail to sign the Declaration of Peace and to seek allies. Social movements that really have a level of human commitment should not fail to be part of WBW, as it will allow them from their approaches to be part of this white flag for peace. We must humanize the world and the world knows it. Personally, from experiences of activism in sectors with conflicting interests, I have a motto for reflection.”We live on the same earth and under the same sky.” Although we do not want to understand it, the bombs affect us all, no matter how far we are. We are very close to each other in the whole world, although sometimes we cannot see each other because of the geographical and geopolitical distance, but we are very close and each of the actions we take, whether they are political, biological or social, are affecting thousands and millions of people. We are affecting thousands and millions of people that inhabit this same planet. The incorporation of a World BEYOND War chapter in Venezuela is a historical moment after years of knowing history for us to tell the world what we could not tell it in the 1800s, what we could not say in the 1900s when we were blocked, and what we could not say in the 80s and 90s when our voices were gagged.
Entrar en la pagina y darse cuenta que si existen pueblos en el mundo organizados y gritando que queremos mantenernos vivos, en un mundo sin odios y lleno de tolerancia, hagamos de las diferencias nuestras mejor virtud y no dejemos de firmar la declaración de paz, de buscar aliados, los movimientos sociales que realmente tienen un nivel de compromiso humano no deben dejar de ser parte de WBW, ya que les permitira desde sus enfoques ser parte de esta bandera blanca por la paz, hay que humanizar el mundo y que el mundo lo sepa. En lo personal por experiencias de activismo en sectores con intereses encontrados tengo un lema para la reflexión. “Vivimos en la misma tierra y bajo el mismo cielo” aunque no lo queramos entenderlo las bombas nos afectan a todos por lejos que estemos, en el mundo entero estamos muy cerca aunque a veces no podamos vernos dentro de la distancia geográficas y geopolíticas pero estamos muy cerca y cada una de las acciones que tomemos sean políticas, sean biológicas o sean sociales,estamos afectando a miles y millones de personas que habitamos en este mismo planeta, la incorporación en un mundo más allá de la guerra para Venezuela es el momento histórico después de años de conocer la historia para nosotros decirle al mundo lo que no pudimos decirle en los años 1800, lo que no podemos decir en los años 1900 cuando se nos bloqueó y lo que no pudimos decir en los años 80 y 90 cuando nuestras voces eran amordazadas.
What keeps you inspired to advocate for change? / ¿Qué te mantiene inspirado para abogar por el cambio?
Maybe it sounds utopian, but I believe in Humanity, not as a concept in books, but as the experiences of living beings who share a planet. We must protect each other. Our differences have a logical order of coexistence and should not be the reason to hate each other. Wars are the product of the needs of power holders who take advantage of our differences, but we are all inhabitants of this beautiful paradise called Earth. It is necessary to unite our voices, our cultures, our beliefs, and even our political interests, only for peace. Say ceasefire, I do not agree with wars, I do not agree with imperialism, I do not agree with interference. It is also to say I do not agree with the Southern Command, I do not agree with colonialism disguised as alliances, I do not agree with NATO, I do not agree with everything that plans in any way to end the ecosystem and those who inhabit it.
Quizas suene utopico, pero creo en la Humanidad no como concepto de libros, si no como la vivencias propia de los seres vivos que comparten un planeta, debemos protegernos entre nosotros, las diferencias tienen un orden logico de convivencia, no debería ser la razon para odiarnos, las guerras son producto de las necesidades propias de cupulas de poder que se aprovechan de nuestras diferencias, pero todos somos habitantes de este hermoso paraiso llamado tierra. Es necesario unir nuestras voces nuestra formación nuestras culturas nuestras creencias e incluso nuestros intereses políticos solo por la paz decir alto al fuego, no estoy de acuerdo con las guerras, no estoy de acuerdo con el imperialismo, no estoy de acuerdo con la injerencia, es también decir no estoy de acuerdo con el comando sur, no estoy de acuerdo con el colonialismo disfrazado de alianzas, no estoy de acuerdo con la OTAN, no estoy de acuerdo con todo aquello que planifica de alguna forma acabar con el ecosistema y quienes habitamos en él.
