I just signed a declaration of peace!

All individuals and organizations, all over the world, are invited to sign a short statement in support of ending all war, and to join in the World Beyond War movement. This is the whole statement:

I understand that wars and militarism make us less safe rather than protect us, that they kill, injure and traumatize adults, children and infants, severely damage the natural environment, erode civil liberties, and drain our economies, siphoning resources from life-affirming activities. I commit to engage in and support nonviolent efforts to end all war and preparations for war and to create a sustainable and just peace.

  21. Hey All: I have been trying very hard to not bombard you with these things for at least a year but perhaps you need to be reminded about the horrid state of America and The World once in a while. As you know, like John G’, I am a reluctant veteran and protested the Viet Nam War for years (even before Johnson poured in the Troops). Then, in graduate school, I could no longer defer and my draft # was 13. Sigh. I hate the endless conflicts, wars, regime changes, etc. that are the staple of the American military / industrial / congressional complex. Trump and the GOP are going to make it worse. BIGLY! I encourage you to consider getting active with World Without War and Veterans for Peace.

HOWEVER, like Bernie Sanders, I consider Global Warming (Climate Change) to be the most serious threat to the World (perhaps the ultimate solution to ending wars: Extinction). Be involved in that too.

  22. Diane Norland says:

I totally agree. We went to the Peace Corps (Iran, 1966-1968) so Larry couldn’t get drafted! I studied and taught history and believe me, the VietNam War was a travesty. Our poor young men who got sucked up in that were tragic heros. I believe the same way about our forays into Iraq and Afganistan. But our own arm dealers are getting richer and richer!

  23. Suzanne Stoddard says:

Every war is a bad war. There is no bigger or more terrible failure of human kindness and creativity than choosing war over peace.

  24. patrick McEneaney says:

Aint going to study War no more

  25. War is where the money is made. This is true for the whole world. The only way out is a world wide sit down strike. This can happen.
If we don’t sit down we will be blown up.
