Antony Loewenstein Has  Won the 2023 Walkley Book Award for “The Palestine Laboratory”

By Liz Remmerswaal, World BEYOND War, November 27, 2023

The judges described the book as “an exposé of the policies, weaponry, and technology that the Israeli government has deployed against Palestine and sold around the world – from hacking software to drones and even 3G mapping.”

Deeply researched, the judges found this brave independent journalism, backed by a small, committed publishing house (Scribe). Antony’s talk earlier in the year at Addi Road in Sydney’s Marrickville drew major journalistic and political figures, including John Pilger, among a full-house audience inside the community centre’s Gumbramorra Hall.

His book ‘The Palestine Laboratory’ is well worth reading. It’s not always been an easy road for Antony, a Jewish journalist reporting on Gaza and other hot zones (geographically and politically), refusing to toe the line in era when everyone seems to want a way of thinking that barely rises above a meme, a slogan, and a flag.

Congratulations to Antony Loewenstein for the 2023 Walkley Book Award – and for doing good, complex work that resists the tide.

Thanks too for supporting Addi Road Writers Festival.
