Stefania Cotei studies in the Department of the History of Consciousness at the University of Santa Cruz. When the crimes against Palestinians in Gaza made headlines around the world through social media, she decided it was time to take action. As a member of the university’s student union, she participated in peaceful protests alongside other students, calling on the university to sever its ties with Israel in response to the massacre in Gaza. What followed was reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, not of a country that prides itself on being the most stable democracy in the world. In this episode, she shares the reasons that drove her to protest and the authorities’ reaction.
