I am thrilled to be able to say welcome to World BEYOND War to a new chapter in Mexico.
Poor Mexico. So far from God, so close to the United States.
Lucky world, to have a nation where people oppose war and oppose U.S. abuses of power, so close to the United States.
The global movement to abolish war can benefit from some Mexican wisdom and Mexican activism.
The U.S. peace movement and the Mexican peace movement can benefit from solidarity with each other.
The President of the United States is now trying to fund, in one piece of legislation, four wars: Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan (where the war hasn’t started yet, but supplying the weapons will help get it started), and the border of Mexico, which ought not to be thought of as a war or really to exist at all. But sending weapons there is probably the most popular of the four in the United States. People in the United States think of every war as defensive, even if it requires truly magical thinking to bomb an impoverished nation several thousand miles away as defensive. Mexico is actually nearby.
Together we can stop the shipping of U.S. weapons to the Mexican border as well as U.S. weapons into Mexico. Together we can make warmongering, rather than immigrating, be what offends people.
On December 2nd the Monroe Doctrine turns 200. Together we can make it a thing of the past.
It will not be easy. We will have to disrupt business as usual. And we will have to make people see a vision of a peaceful, equitable, sustainable, and law-abiding world.

Pobre México. Tan lejos de Dios, tan cerca de Estados Unidos.
Mundo afortunado de tener una nación donde la gente se opone a la guerra y a los abusos de poder de Estados Unidos, tan cerca de Estados Unidos.
El movimiento global para abolir la guerra puede beneficiarse de algo de sabiduría y activismo mexicanos.
El movimiento por la paz estadounidense y el movimiento por la paz mexicano pueden beneficiarse de la solidaridad mutua.
El Presidente de los Estados Unidos ahora está tratando de financiar, en una sola ley, cuatro guerras: Ucrania, Israel, Taiwán (donde la guerra aún no ha comenzado, pero el suministro de armas ayudará a comenzar) y la frontera de México, que no debería considerarse una guerra ni debería existir en absoluto. Pero enviar armas allí es probablemente el más popular de los cuatro en Estados Unidos. La gente en Estados Unidos piensa que toda guerra es defensiva, incluso si se requiere un pensamiento verdaderamente mágico para bombardear una nación empobrecida a varios miles de kilómetros de distancia como defensiva. En realidad, México está cerca.
Juntos podemos detener el envío de armas estadounidenses a la frontera con México, así como el envío de armas estadounidenses a México. Juntos podemos hacer que lo que ofende a la gente sea el belicismo, en lugar de la inmigración.
El 2 de diciembre la Doctrina Monroe cumple 200 años. Juntos podemos hacer que sea cosa del pasado.
No será fácil. Tendremos que interrumpir el funcionamiento habitual. Y tendremos que hacer que la gente vea la visión de un mundo pacífico, equitativo, sostenible y respetuoso de las leyes.
