Every year various grassroots organizations and social movements in Colombia come together to hold an anti-militarist week, a space that serves to make visible the main characteristics that define militarism in a society, with special focus on Colombian society.
This initiative was carried out from Monday, May 15 to Saturday, May 20, in the city of Bogotá, and managed to combine activities on digital platforms and social networks, taking advantage of new technologies that allow us to connect with each other, as well as the development of face-to-face initiatives, which managed to bring together youth and activists against war and militarism.
Among the activities carried out and in which WBW participated, is the conversation held in a space on Twitter, called the “Linking of women to the military forces.” This activity was organized by Collective Action of Conscientious Objectors (ACCOC), as well as the International League of Women for Peace and Freedom (LIMPAL). Likewise, WBW attended a workshop held by TADAMUN Antimili, where we were able to learn about the war industry in Colombia, the current challenges of the anti-militarist movement and the importance of organizing ourselves to build a great movement that opposes war in all its forms and dimensions.
Also as part of the set of activities, WBW participated in a nonviolent communication workshop, in which effective techniques were taught to communicate and be able to move from conflict to understanding.
Finally, the anti-militarist week ended with a space to share and network among the various groups and movements that contributed to the realization of this successful anti-militarist week. These activities were organized by an important coalition called the Anti-Militarist Movement. Looking ahead, the Anti-Militarist Movement is calling for a large mobilization against the arms fair that takes place in Colombia every two years and will take place next November.

WBW participa en semana Antimilitarista en Colombia

Cada año diversas organizaciones de base y movimientos sociales en Colombia se unen para realizar una semana antimilitarista, un espacio que sirve para visibilizar las principales características que definen el militarismo en una sociedad, con especial foco en la sociedad colombiana.
Esta iniciativa se llevó a cabo desde el lunes 15 de mayo hasta el sábado 20 de mayo en la ciudad de Bogotá y logró combinar actividades en plataformas digitales y redes sociales, aprovechando las nuevas tecnologías que nos permiten conectarnos entre nosotros, así como el desarrollo de iniciativas presenciales, que lograron reunir a jóvenes y activistas contra la guerra y el militarismo.
Entre las actividades realizadas y en las que participó WBW, se encuentra el conversatorio realizado en un espacio en Twitter, denominado “Vinculación de mujeres a las fuerzas militares”. Esta actividad fue organizada por Acción Colectiva de Objetores de Conciencia (ACCOC), así como la Liga Internacional de Mujeres por la Paz y la Libertad (LIMPAL).
De igual forma , WBW asistió a un taller impartido por TADAMUN Antimili, donde pudimos conocer más sobre la industria de la guerra en Colombia, los desafíos actuales del movimiento antimilitarista y la importancia de organizarnos para construir un gran movimiento que se oponga a la guerra en todas sus formas y dimensiones.
También como parte del conjunto de actividades, WBW participó en un taller de comunicación no violenta, en el que se enseñaron técnicas efectivas para comunicarse y poder pasar del conflicto al entendimiento.
Finalmente, la semana antimilitarista finalizó con un espacio de intercambio y trabajo en red entre los diversos grupos y movimientos que contribuyeron a la realización de esta exitosa semana antimilitarista. Estas actividades fueron organizadas por una importante coalición llamada Movimiento Antimilitarista.
De cara al futuro, el Movimiento Antimilitarista convoca a una gran movilización contra la feria de armas que se realiza en Colombia cada dos años y se realizará en noviembre próximo.
