We invite you to take action with our partners at The Peace Alliance Educational Institute, which has recently become an affiliate of World BEYOND War! The Peace Alliance is urging Congress to create a U.S. Department of Peacebuilding. We need to make peace a national policy priority with a cabinet-level department advancing a demilitarized approach to security.
If you’re from the U.S., here’s how you can take action:
- Ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor the Department of Peacebuilding Act (HR 1111) with this easy one-click online action.
- Make a short phone call to your member of Congress to ask them to co-sponsor the legislation. Phone calls are an effective and personalized way to get our ask across! Find your member of Congress’s phone number and brush up on talking points here.
- Participate in lobby meetings with Congressional offices by emailing nancy@peacealliance.org and including your name, city, state, zip code and the name of your member of Congress. To locate your member of Congress, click here.
Over 500 organizations have endorsed the legislation to create a Department of Peacebuilding. To date the bill has 48 co-sponsors. With your help we will add more co-sponsors during the coming days and weeks.
The Department of Peacebuilding legislation (HR 1111) addresses the root causes of violence by researching solutions and promoting policies and programs that already work. It is cost effective and will save lives and money. The U.S. spends over $1 trillion a year on war and preparations for war; it is time that we invest our tax dollars into building peace instead.
