How did you get involved with World BEYOND War (WBW)?

It all started with the annual conference, #NoWar2017, two years ago. As a software developer, I often go to tech conferences, and I know how valuable a good conference can be. When I saw there would be an antiwar conference in Washington, DC, I decided to go, and I’m sure glad I did. I introduced myself as someone who could help out with the website and social media, and my offer was happily accepted.

What kinds of activities do you help with?

As World BEYOND War’s Technology & Social Media Director, I post articles to the website, configure plugins, and deal with server upgrades. Along with several other volunteers and staffers, I keep our social media humming, especially on Twitter and Facebook. Additionally, I produce a podcast episode every month – this is a new project I am really excited about and I hope everyone who likes podcasts will check ours out.

What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with WBW?

One easy way to get involved is to interact with us on Twitter or Facebook. We want to keep a public conversation going, and social media is a great forum to introduce yourself to us, no matter where you live. Also, come to our events and introduce yourself in person! Check out our global events map. Our 4th annual global conference, #NoWar2019, is coming up in 2 weeks in Ireland!

What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?

I really believe change is possible, and that nonviolent activism in the tradition of Gandhi and MLK is the proven path to this change. At the same time, I believe that antiwar activism is the most difficult, challenging and baffling cause of them all. This makes it a noble challenge, and I’m just really glad that with World BEYOND War I’ve found other people who I can work with to take on this formidable task.
