World BEYOND War is a global nonviolent movement to end war and establish a just and sustainable peace through education, activism and media.
WBW was founded in 2014 when co-founders David Hartsough and David Swanson and a group of like-minded peace advocates set out to create a global movement to abolish the institution of war itself. They decided that if war is ever to be abolished, then it must be taken off the table as a viable option.
Finding a way to transition to a global security system that is supported by international law, diplomacy, collaboration and human rights and defending those things with nonviolent action rather than the threat of violence, is the heart of WBW.
Now WBW coordinates 46 chapters in 35 countries, including in Madison, and maintain partnerships with 109 affiliates around the world. In Africa, there are now WBW chapters in Burundi, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Uganda, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Gambia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Ghana and Libya.
WBW Cameroon was established in 2020 and in January 2024 Guy Feugap was appointed the first Africa Organizer. Gil Halsted talked with him on World View on Sunday, March 2nd about peace efforts in Africa.
