I just signed World BEYOND War’s Declaration of Peace, joining tens of thousands of individuals and over 900 organizations in 202 countries worldwide that have signed.
All individuals and organizations, all over the world, are invited to sign this short statement in support of ending all war, and to join in the World BEYOND War movement:
“I understand that wars and militarism make us less safe rather than protect us, that they kill, injure and traumatize adults, children and infants, severely damage the natural environment, erode civil liberties, and drain our economies, siphoning resources from life-affirming activities. I commit to engage in and support nonviolent efforts to end all war and preparations for war and to create a sustainable and just peace.”
World BEYOND War advocates for the abolition of war, and its replacement with the “alternative global security system,” a system based on 1) demilitarizing security, 2) managing conflict nonviolently, and 3) creating a culture of peace.
World BEYOND War believes that education is a critical component of an alternative global security system and an essential tool for getting us there. WBW’s educational resources are based on knowledge and research that expose the myths of war and illuminate the proven nonviolent, peaceful alternatives that can bring us authentic security.
Of course, knowledge is only useful when it’s applied, and that’s why World BEYOND War’s theory of change is based on a combined approach of peace education, media and communications, and nonviolent activism. From taking action to block the arms trade to promoting a global nuclear ban, from campaigning in solidarity with communities in active war zones to amplifying calls for decolonization, World BEYOND War’s action campaigns take many forms around the globe. Through the organization’s distributed organizing model, its chapters and affiliates take the lead by working on strategic issues of importance to their local communities, all with an eye towards the larger goal of war abolition.
