World BEYOND War’s #NoWar2024 annual conference is happening next month! This special three day event is taking place both online and in four physical locations: Sydney, Wanfried, Bogata and Washington DC. In this month’s episode of the World BEYOND War podcast, we talked to some of our upcoming special guests.

Kazuyuki Nakazato and Katsuya Tamaki of the Okinawa Prefectural Government’s Washington DC office join us first to talk about Okinawa’s long struggle to free itself from US occupation in the form of military bases. We talk about popular opposition to the Henoko base relocation project, the damages caused by PFAS chemicals used at US bases which even the government of Okinawa is not allowed to investigate, conflicts between western powers and China and increasing Japanese militarism, and why the world’s peace movements are more than a pipe dream.

We are next visited by Lilli Barto, an activist in Sydney, Australia with Wage Peace Disrupt Wars and other organizations to talk about Australia’s disturbing plans to become a top 10 weapons exporter, the legacy of violence against indigenous populations, AUKUS, nuclear submarines, differing perceptions of the Russia/Ukraine war and Israel/Gaza war in Australia, and the importance of continuing to show up to protest the war machine and it’s profitable, powerful industries.

Kaz and Lil will be speaking on the first and third days of #NoWar2024. Please check out the 3-day schedule and be there to continue these vital conversations by people meeting all over the world to save our planet from environmental suicide and war.
