Feminism and pacifism should go hand in hand, yet some feminists are promoting a militaristic agenda. One of the most well-known and active members of the international pacifist movement, a staunch feminist and progressive activist, Heidi Meinzolt, engages in a conversation with the coordinators of World BEYOND War Romania about the increasingly problematic relationship between feminism and pacifism.
Why is pacifism being marginalised? Is there a connection between the rise of neoliberalism and the sidelining of pacifism? How is it possible to have pro-war feminists, and what should our response be? These are just a few of the pressing questions to which Heidi Meinzolt generously offers her insights to the hosts of Peace Barricade’s episode 3, Florina Tufescu and Maria Cernat.
Through this dialogue, Heidi Meinzolt sheds light on the tensions and dilemmas faced by progressive movements, such as rising militarism and neoliberalism, while encouraging a deeper reflection on how pacifists can navigate an ever-changing political and social landscape.
