How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?
I was introduced to World BEYOND War through the Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network. I’ve always felt deeply drawn to the question of what makes peace possible, not just as an absence of war, but as a spiritual and ethical commitment to life itself. As a theologian-in-training, I began to explore the intersection of justice, compassion, and resistance to violence. WBW’s mission spoke to something very personal in me: a belief that peace is not an ideal for the naive, but a discipline of the brave
What kinds of WBW activities do you work on?
I help monitor emails for the events page and assist with updating the events calendar.
What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW?
Start with WBW’s educational materials, they offer both clarity and courage. But more importantly, let your life open up to the stories of those directly affected by war. Listen to them, learn from them, and allow their reality to shift your own.
What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?
My grandparents lived through the Chinese Civil War. My husband lived through gang violence and unrest in El Salvador. And my friends from Syria, Ukraine, Ethiopia, and Palestine carry the visible and invisible wounds of war. Their lives remind me that conflict is not abstract; it’s intimate. It’s in the stories of families torn apart, in the quiet griefs that last generations. What keeps me going is the conviction that love, in its most radical form, is political. Peace is an act of rebellion against despair.
