About Our Chapter / Notre Chapitre
The Togolese chapter is working in a context marked by insecurity. Togo has been facing a terrorist threat by groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda (or the Islamic State). Since 2022, terrorist groups from the Sahel have been gradually extending their reach and threatening the West African coast, including Togo, where attacks multiply in the north, targeting civilians and military personnel. The presence of terrorist groups has extended far beyond the desert confines of northern Mali. Rural areas in Burkina Faso and the west of Niger are largely under their control. Northern Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin and eastern Senegal are also in their target zones.
In this context, Togo for a World BEYOND War is developing partnerships with organizations and activists. For instance, “Jeunes Volontaires pour l’Environnement (JVE Togo)” and the Association “Jeunes Verts Togo” have been mobilized to work together around the Climate/Environment issue in relation to war and its consequences on the environment and climate. The chapter is also conducting a campaign to raise awareness of the WBW Declaration of Peace, through prospects and community platforms.
