Reforming the United Nations

(This is section 35 of the World Beyond War white paper A Global Security System: An Alternative to War. Continue to preceding | following section.)

Un-flag-square_onlineThe United Nations was created as a response to World War II to prevent war by negotiation, sanctions, and collective security. The Preamble to the Charter provides the overall mission:

To save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom. . . .

Reforming the United Nations can and needs to take place at different levels.

* Reforming the Charter to More Effectively Deal with Aggression
* Reforming the Security Council
* Provide Adequate Funding
* Forecasting and Managing Conflicts Early On: A Conflict Management
* Reform the General Assembly

  1. Would like to sign but that’s like Bernie Sanders, just not good enough. The word imperialism isn’t even mentioned for one. Is there any way for other activists to provide input on this because I and many others believe a global approach is the right thing to do culminating in demands made to the U.N. Too bad we can’t combine efforts, but I guess that’s a large part of the problem, everyone is doing their own thing.
We want to end Rule by the rich and outlaw all imperialism, not just declared and U.N. approved wars.

  2. It is time to retool all weapons manufacturers worldwide.

“If we do not understand that war is never a war primarily against other nations but primarily against the common people in the home country, we cannot effectively put a stop to it.
War impoverishes everyone except a small ruling clique in each country.
The common people have the strength to stop a war any time.
Only instilled confusion to keep us thinking that we are a national body instead of the highly oppressive class structure that is the reality, only this and the patterns of powerlessness have kept us from stopping wars that firmly.
We, the working-class, farmers, intellectuals, middle-class, and the owning-class individuals who have transcended their class position to join us, must come to understand the class nature of war, or we can once again be led by the nose, in the name of patriotism, to our own destruction.”

  3. I believe that when we realize we are one species living on one planet, we will manage to hydrate, feed, clothe, educate, medicate, and provide sanitation and energy for every man, woman, and child on the planet.
I wrote and self-published a book about topic called “Kentucky Fried Fiction”, which is available for $18 (includes shipping) at my home address: Andrew Grundy III, 1340 Bradfordsville Road, Lebanon, Kentucky, 40033.

  4. How would World Beyond War deal with the virulent chaos of ISIS?
Not having as yet studied the specifics of WBW, I wonder how it differs from the World Constitution and Federation Association concept; and why, if compatible, not merge with it and like organizations?

  5. Smokey Rooms

Throughout history, plots have been laid
behind closed doors, in smokey rooms.
Control, control, control, that`s all that`s in their heads.
For thousands of years, one purpose, one direction, one end.
Rule over all, no matter what it takes,
rule over all, no matter how long it takes.

They left their homes in Babylon,
to conquer lands and divide the world.
They created fear, a fear we never knew before.
In a world full of fear, fear from each other,
they`ll offer us protection with their military and armies,
but with their military and armies, they`ll go to war again
and centralize their power on all corners of the globe.
To fight for peace, for a peace we all once knew,
    before they went to war.

They are not protecting us, they`re protecting what`s not theirs,
but man won` t see it, it`s too cleverly disguised.
They will cover our eyes, with problems they created.
They will open our eyes, with answers we`ll believe.

Their purpose, their direction, once only known to themselves.
Won`t come quickly, they`ll meet again.
In those smokey rooms behind closed doors.
They`ll hand the plot, to generations yet to come.
The bloodline is thick so thick, they believe it will last foreever,
the plot goes on and on.
While we, mankind will die, with peace upon our hearts
and leave relations, born and young,
to start anew, the life they choose.

For the bloodlines that rule, ruled by money and religion.
Won`t match us when we all unite,
our brothers, sisters around the world,
because love is divine and that is our weapon,
that no military or army can destroy.
We will look within our souls and change what they have done.
    There will be no revolution
because what they have built will fall
and in our evolution we will build upon the old.
A world that`s fine for us.

No use, no more for smokey rooms,
    so lock those doors foreever.
For we now know, the lessons that we learnt.
That control and rule must not exsist,
where love is to be found.
