The Move for Peace Challenge has four main goals:

  • Education: Raise awareness about the global movement to end war.
  • Action: Inspire and support people to learn about and contribute to peace and anti-war efforts.
  • Connection: Encourage global and local solidarity across borders, sectors, and generations, and unite people around a common cause.
  • Fundraising: Raise funds to support the global movement to end war.

War affects everyone, though in different ways.

The Move for Peace Challenge is designed to be inclusive and welcome individuals, families, communities, and organisations.

There are several ways to take part in Move for Peace:

1) Share your peace movements:

Participants are invited to document and share any activity that moves them forward — including walking, jogging, running, cycling, rowing, wheelchair use, or other forms of movement. Activities can take place in person or virtually, individually or as a group, at organised times or whenever suits participants best.

Important! Please upload photos and videos of your peace-promoting movements by clicking on this link. When you submit, please remember to provide: Name – Date – Location – Distance – Activity

2) Support the campaign through merchandise:

Participants can also support the campaign by purchasing Move for Peace merchandise, helping to raise awareness and contribute to the wider peace movement.

3) Support the campaign with a donation:

Donations help World BEYOND War support peace and anti-war education, activism, communications, and media work around the world. Supporters can contribute at any time to Move for Peace and WBW’s broader work.

4) Spread the word:

Supporters are encouraged to share the initiative through digital and in-person networks and to invite others to learn about and join the campaign.

Participation varies depending on people’s circumstances, abilities, and goals. Some participants take on large endurance challenges, while others choose smaller or more regular forms of movement. The emphasis is on setting goals that are meaningful, challenging, and realistic.

Examples of challenge goals include:

  • Complete a 10-mile challenge during a month of your choice, with each mile symbolising a year of WBW’s work to end war.
  • Get active for 10 minutes a day over a chosen period, with each minute symbolising a year of WBW’s work to end war.
  • Set a goal of 100+ movements over a year, symbolising the many civilians harmed by war and armed conflict.
  • Achieve more than 100 miles in a year, reflecting the devastating costs of war.
  • Participate in 196 hours of movement throughout the year, representing the number of countries we aspire to be free from war.

The benefits of participating in Move for Peace include:

  • Physical activity that could support physical and mental well-being.
  • Opportunities to contribute to personal and collective goals while supporting broader learning and change.
  • Participation in the global movement to end war.
  • Opportunities to be recognised through WBW’s online and public-facing work.
  • Fundraising in support of WBW’s work to build a world beyond war.

While some events may be coordinated, participants can also take part at their own pace, either in person or from home.

More About Move for Peace

War is peace and development in reverse.

Around 1 in 4 people live in areas affected by war or armed conflict. Among other harms, war is:

  • a major cause of death, injury, and trauma
  • a driver of nuclear risk
  • a major destroyer of the natural environment
  • a key cause of displacement and debt
  • a frequent justification for government secrecy and authoritarianism
  • a major impediment to global cooperation on shared crises

Move for Peace is designed to contribute to the global nonviolent movement to end war. It invites people to walk, jog, run, cycle, row, use a wheelchair, or take part in any form of movement that carries them forward. These activities represent not only physical motion, but also the individual and collective effort needed to move toward a world beyond war.
