Barcelona, Spain was the location of a meeting of various organizations and activists organized by the Delàs Center for Peace and the International Peace Bureau — of which World BEYOND War is a member.
On Thursday, October 23, a peace conference was organized, which had the title “Pacifism in Times of Genocide and Rearmament.” At the event activists from Palestine, researchers, and representatives of organizations shared their reflections on the current global political context. For his part, Gabriel Aguirre, organizer for Latin America of World BEYOND War, shared the urgency of raising the complaint against the current threats by the U.S. government in the Caribbean, through the militarization of this area with the aim of militarily attacking Venezuela.
The event continued on Friday with the use of working groups that addressed thematic axes related to: “Global Disarmament and Militarization”, “Geopolitical Changes and reform of Global governance”, “Solidarity with Palestine and the People who are victims of militarization around the world”, and “Peace, Climate, Social and Gender Justice.” These spaces served to exchange visions and build proposals for common actions.
During the weekend of October 25 and 26, the triennial meeting of the International Peace Bureau was held, with the objective of evaluating the work, and advancing in strategic planning. During this meeting the global situation was also evaluated, where Gabriel Aguirre was able to mention the serious situation of militarization in Latin America, through the deployment of troops in several countries, and more recently in the Caribbean, with the presence of warships, nuclear-capable submarines, with the support of the Southern Command and the IV Fleet, as well as the use of United States and NATO military bases on the continent, this should undoubtedly alert the global peace movement to speak about the true interests of this deployment protected by the false narrative of combating drug cartels. U.S. actions have the goal of seizing strategic resources in Latin America. The collective call of all attendees was to reinforce solidarity with all of Latin America and particularly Venezuela and Colombia.

The activity also highlighted Spain’s role in responding negatively to the United States’ desire to increase the military budgets of NATO members.

Barcelona, España fue lugar para el encuentro de diferentes organizaciones y activistas quienes se reunieron en el marco de las actividades organizadas por el Centro Delàs por la Paz, y el Buró Internacional de la Paz, plataforma de trabajo por la paz, de la cual es miembro World BEYOND War.
El día sábado 23 de Octubre se organizó una conferencia de paz, que tenía como nombre “Pacifismo en tiempos de Genocidio y Rearme”, en el evento activistas de Palestina, Investigadores, y representantes de organizaciones compartieron sus reflexiones sobre el actual contexto político global, por su parte Gabriel Aguirre, organizador para América Latina de World BEYOND War, compartió la urgencia de elevar la denuncia frente a las actuales amenazas por parte de EE.UU en el Caribe, a través de la militarización de esta zona , con el objetivo de agredir militarmente a Venezuela.
El evento continuó el día viernes con la instalación de mesas de trabajo: que abordaron ejes temáticos relacionados con: “Desarme Global y Militarización”, “Cambios Geopolíticos y reforma a la gobernanza Global”, “Solidaridad con Palestina y los Pueblos victimas de la militarización alrededor del mundo”, “Paz, Clima, Justicia Social y de Género”, estos espacio sirvieron para intercambiar visiones y construir propuestas de acciones comunes.
Durante el fin de semana 25 y 26 de Octubre, se realizó la reunión trienial del Buró Internacional de la paz, reunión que se realiza cada 3 años, con el objetivo de evaluar el trabajo, y avanzar en la planificación estratégica, a esta reunión, durante esta reunión también se evaluó la situación global, donde Gabriel Aguirre, pudo mencionar la grave situación de militarización en América Latina, mediante el despliegue de tropas en varios países, y más recientemente en el Caribe, con la presencia de buques de guerra, submarinos de capacidad nuclear, con el apoyo del Comando Sur y de la IV flota, así como la utilización de las bases militares de Estados Unidos y la OTAN en el continente, esto sin dudas debe alertar al movimiento de paz global para hablar sobre los verdaderos intereses de este despliegue amparado en la falsa narrativa del combate a los cárteles de la droga y que realmente tiene el interés de apoderarse de recursos estratégicos de América Latina, aunque no so signifique desestabilizar toda la región, el llamado colectivo de todos los asistentes fue a reforzar la solidaridad con toda América Latinq y particularmente Venezuela y Colombia.

En la actividad también se destacó el papel de España, en no continuar destinando fondos a la OTAN, y respondiendo negativamente al deseo de Estados Unidos, de aumentar el presupuesto de esta alianza militarista.
