How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?

As a second-year master’s student in Peace and Security and Public Law, I gradually became aware of the serious human and social consequences of armed conflict, particularly in Africa. This prompted me to look for ways to take concrete action for peace. I discovered World BEYOND War, whose systemic approach to abolishing war and promoting genuine security deeply inspired me. I began my involvement as a member responsible for expanding the base in Saint-Louis and by participating in several campaigns, such as the “Get your troops out of Djibouti” and the “Hands Off Sudan” campaigns. Today, as coordinator of the Senegal chapter, I continue this commitment with even greater conviction.

What kinds of WBW activities do you work on?

As coordinator of the Senegal chapter of WBW, I lead the local community, plan and organize awareness-raising activities and events, and mobilize young people around flagship campaigns. I actively contributed to the international campaign “Stand With Congo” and organized a webinar in collaboration with the South Kivu chapter of WBW on the theme: “Isn’t the price for peace in DRC too high?” I also organized a webinar during Women’s Month on the theme “Promoting peace: for a world without war,” in partnership with the Senegalese section of WILPF, the NGO Action for Change Senegal, and the Malian chapter of World BEYOND War. I also lead peace education sessions, while contributing to communication and advocacy with local actors.

What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW?

I recommend starting by learning more and finding what resonates with you most. Getting involved doesn’t necessarily mean doing everything at once: signing a petition, sharing information, or participating in a local event are already important actions. Joining WBW means becoming part of a motivating community and gaining access to valuable resources. Don’t stay isolated; collective work is more powerful and encouraging. Be patient and persistent, because building a world without war is a long-term challenge, but every action counts.

What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?

I am driven by the conviction that peace is a fundamental right, and that war is an avoidable tragedy that destroys lives and compromises the future of generations to come. Seeing the impact of conflicts in Africa strengthens my commitment. Campaigning with WBW gives me hope and energy, because I know that together we can build a world based on justice, solidarity, and cooperation, rather than violence. As David Swanson, Executive Director of World BEYOND War, says: “War is obsolete. It doesn’t work. It kills people, it wastes resources, it creates enemies. Peace is the only viable option for our survival.”

Comment vous êtes-vous engagée dans le militantisme anti-guerre et dans World BEYOND War ?

Étudiante en deuxième année de Master en Paix et Sécurité ainsi qu’en Droit Public, j’ai progressivement pris conscience des graves conséquences humaines et sociales des conflits armés, particulièrement en Afrique. Cette prise de conscience m’a poussée à chercher des moyens d’agir concrètement pour la paix. J’ai découvert World BEYOND War, dont l’approche systémique visant à abolir la guerre et promouvoir une sécurité véritable m’a profondément touchée. J’ai commencé mon engagement en tant que membre chargée d’élargir la base à Saint-Louis et en participant à plusieurs campagnes, telles que la fermeture des bases militaires à Djibouti et la campagne « Hands Off Sudan ». Aujourd’hui, en tant que coordinatrice du chapitre du Sénégal, je poursuis cet engagement avec encore plus de conviction.

À quels types d’activités de WBW participez-vous ?

En tant que coordinatrice du chapitre du Sénégal de WBW, j’anime la communauté locale, je planifie et organise des actions de sensibilisation, des événements et je mobilise les jeunes autour des campagnes phares. J’ai activement contribué à la campagne internationale « Stand With Congo » et organisé un webinaire en collaboration avec le chapitre congolais du Sud-Kivu de WBW sur le thème : « Le prix à payer pour la paix en RDC, n’est-il pas trop lourd ? ». J’ai également organisé un webinaire à l’occasion du Mois des Femmes sur le thème « Promotion de la paix : pour un monde sans guerre », en partenariat avec la section sénégalaise de WILPF, l’ONG Action for Change Sénégal, et le chapitre malien de World BEYOND War. J’anime aussi des sessions d’éducation à la paix, tout en contribuant à la communication et au plaidoyer auprès des acteurs locaux.

Quelle est votre principale recommandation pour quelqu’un qui souhaite s’engager dans le militantisme anti-guerre et dans WBW ?

Je recommande de commencer par s’informer et de trouver ce qui vous parle le plus. S’engager ne signifie pas forcément tout faire d’un coup : signer une pétition, partager une information ou participer à un événement local sont déjà des actions importantes. Rejoindre WBW, c’est intégrer une communauté motivante et accéder à des ressources précieuses. Ne restez pas isolé, le travail collectif est plus puissant et encourageant. Soyez patients et persévérant, car construire un monde sans guerre est un défi de longue haleine, mais chaque action compte.

Qu’est-ce qui vous motive à militer pour le changement ?

Je suis animée par la conviction que la paix est un droit fondamental, et que la guerre est une tragédie évitable, qui détruit des vies et compromet l’avenir des générations futures. Voir l’impact des conflits en Afrique renforce mon engagement. Militer avec WBW m’apporte espoir et énergie, car je sais que nous pouvons construire ensemble un monde fondé sur la justice, la solidarité et la coopération, plutôt que sur la violence. Car comme le dit David Swanson, Directeur exécutif de World BEYOND War : « La guerre est obsolète. Elle ne fonctionne pas. Elle tue des gens, gaspille des ressources, crée des ennemis. La paix est la seule option viable pour notre survie ».
