Job Description for Development Director
World BEYOND War is a global, grassroots network of activists, volunteers, and allied organizations advocating for the abolition of war and its replacement with an alternative global security system based on peace and demilitarization. Our reach is international, with membership from 175 countries worldwide. The focus of our work is peace education, weapons divestment, and closing military bases. We have successfully moved multi-issue coalitions to take up the cause of peace, coalitions of peace groups to advocate for full war abolition, and politicians to include peace in their platforms.

This is a part-time 20 hrs/wk remote position. You will work from a home office and can be based anywhere in the world. Annual salary for this position starts at $20,000/year and includes two weeks of paid vacation time.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION
The development director works to strengthen and expand the capabilities of WBW by increasing revenue. The development director will work in tandem with the Organizing Director and Education Director where responsibilities overlap.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
–Ready access to a fast, reliable internet connection. Fully proficient in internet navigation.
–Mastery of English language. Additional language proficiencies are desired, but not required.
–Proficiency with database management.
–Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
–Proficiency with social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter

FUNDRAISING (Primary responsibility)
The Development Director will:
-Manage donor management system
-Research grant opportunities and draft applications
-Utilize membership database to derive donations
-Establish relationship with major donors
-Research and recruit major donors
-Recruit recurring donors
-Plan fundraising events/campaigns
-Create fundraising plan
-Participate in budget planning
-Pursue various fundraising avenues such as e-mail, direct mail, social media
-Attend training sessions/classes/access websites, e.g. Foundation Center

EVENT PLANNING
The development director helps with planning conferences and other events.

SPEAKING/WRITING
Draft and write materials, including grant applications, donor appeal letters, action alerts, web site content and newsletter articles. Speak at public events, fundraisers, conferences, and other venues, and serve as a representative of World BEYOND War to the public and the media.

STRATEGIC PLAN
The development director will participate in the strategic planning.

OTHER
The development director may be asked to perform other tasks as requested by the director.
