Canadian Militarism

Canada is a major weapons dealer, purchaser, and war participant, exporting over $200 million in weapons to every type of government and itself spending over $20 billion (and about $600 for every Canadian person) on militarism every year. Canada is a reliable partner in U.S. and NATO wars and maintains its own imperial bases in Jamaica, Germany, Senegal, and Kuwait. Canada is a hold-out on signing the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Canada’s militarism abroad has deep impacts on its domestic civil liberties, policing, its position on indigenous rights, and its conduct toward the natural environment. Here are some key details:

World BEYOND War Canada is engaged in educational and activist work to demilitarize Canada and Canadian culture, while working with World BEYOND War members around the world to do the same globally. We’ve held conferences and forums, passed local resolutions, blocked weapons shipments with our bodies, divested funds from war profiteering, and shaped national debates. Here are some highlights:
