Free Webinar on March 7: No to NATO, Yes to Peace
The mainstream media is painting a false picture that NATO is a peaceful organization – but we know that it has repeatedly violated international law, and bombed Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Libya. NATO now accounts for three-quarters of all military spending and weapons dealing on the globe.
The March 7 webinar will feature: Jovanni Reyes, who was deployed to the Balkans in 1996 as part of NATO’s first ever military intervention; Ana Maria Gower, a Serbian-British mixed media artist and a survivor of the NATO bombings of Yugoslavia; and Kristine Karch, Co-Chair of the No to War/No to NATO Network. RSVP for the webinar here.

New Zealand Chapter Hosts Peace Picnic
On February 12, WBW’s New Zealand chapter and allied organizations organized a Peace Picnic on the Parliament Lawn in Wellington, where we delivered hundreds of petition signatures to Golriz Ghahraman, the Green MP spokesperson on Defence. The petition urges the New Zealand government to reconsider spending $2.3 billion on four Boeing P-8 Poseidon war planes. The planes, optimised for anti-submarine warfare, will be outfitted with surveillance systems, communications platforms, and weapons targeting. They are far in excess of what is required to patrol our waters and safeguard New Zealand’s security, which would cost a fraction of this amount. This is the first picnic of the year and we will come back again and again for as long as is needed to oppose this troubling shift in New Zealand’s foreign policy. Get involved in NZ by contacting Chapter Coordinator Liz Remmerswaal at lizrem@gmail.com.
