How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?
I joined WBW through participating in the organization’s 20-hour Organizing 101 online course. Joining WBW helped me realize my dreams of how I could establish a platform to raise my voice for those who have been facing injustice. I learned a lot through the course, which I am still benefiting from.
Since I was young it was my dream to become an advocate for peace in order to see the world become safer for people to continuously live in peace and harmony.
What kinds of WBW activities do you work on?
As a national coordinator for the WBW Gambia Chapter, I believe it’s a powerful way to advocate for global peace and work toward ending wars. The Chapter in the Gambia brings together like-minded individuals who share a passion for peace. Through education, awareness campaigns, and community engagement, we raise consciousness about the devastating impacts of conflicts around Foni and Casamance and promote alternatives. I have also been involved in the Djibouti campaign to advocate for the closure of foreign military bases there: sharing the petition with others, choosing campaign targets, preparing presentations about the cause, gathering signatures, and more. Also, we join the WBW Cameroon Chapter campaigning for Stop Killer Robots which gives us the opportunity to connect with our Parliament members.
Together with World BEYOND War, we amplify our voices and inspire positive change, not just in Gambia, but globally. Every step towards peace matters, and the chapter in Gambia can make a significant difference in building a more peaceful world. The Chapter serves as a platform for collaboration, organizing events, and fostering dialogue on conflict resolution.
What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW?
My recommendation is to consider the life of children and women and to stand with the world to encourage peace and stability. Let peace be like your favorite clothes to you, which you love putting on as much as you want. Let “anti-war” be a slogan so that all minds will be free from all kinds of war and discomfort.
What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?
The goal of peace and harmony with happiness inspires me to advocate for change. Change is what all human beings need. In positive ways we should come together and make decisions to care and protect the lives of people so we can all live together happily. Change matters and should be considered worldwide.
