How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?
Coming from Libya, a country that has seen decades of conflict, I’ve always been deeply aware of the impact of war on communities, especially on young people. My journey into peace activism started with grassroots initiatives focused on youth empowerment and conflict resolution. Over time, I realized that addressing the root causes of violence requires a broader, global perspective. That’s what led me to World BEYOND War. I wanted to be part of a movement that doesn’t just respond to war but actively works to prevent it.
What kinds of WBW activities do you work on?
As I work on establishing a WBW chapter in Libya, my focus has been on outreach and awareness. I help to organize discussions, connect with like-minded individuals, and create strategies to engage young people in peacebuilding efforts. We are also planning to launch a fellowship program focused on nonviolence and conflict resolution for youth, aiming to equip them with the knowledge and tools to advocate for peace.
What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW?
Start by educating yourself. Peace activism isn’t just about opposing war; it’s about promoting alternatives. Read about the economic and political drivers of war, learn about successful peace movements, and connect with others who share the same vision.
What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?
I’ve seen firsthand how war destroys not just buildings but also dreams, opportunities, and futures. But I’ve also seen resilience in young people who refuse to let conflict define their lives; communities that rebuild despite all odds. That keeps me going. I believe that change starts with individuals who are willing to stand up and say, “Enough.” And if we can inspire just one more person to join the cause, that’s a step closer to a world beyond war.
