How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?
I became interested in anti-war activism while studying history in school. Learning about the terrible events and suffering caused by past wars made me want to understand more about what is happening in the world today. I started looking into current wars and how the system behind them continues to cause harm. My interest became more personal because my parents are immigrants from Myanmar, which is currently experiencing a civil war. They came to the United States seeking asylum, and that made me think more deeply about the real human cost of war. That’s when I found World BEYOND War. I was inspired by WBW’s mission to end all war through education, action, and peaceful solutions. It felt like a powerful way to make a difference, both in my community and as part of a larger global movement.
What kinds of WBW activities do you work on?
Fremont for a World BEYOND War was founded in 2025. The chapter is located in the Bay Area and holds frequent community events, educating on worldwide conflicts/wars. The chapter was made by a group of high school students hoping to make an impact for the betterment of the world. In the Fremont chapter, we organize public events and community meetings to share the message of World BEYOND War and connect with people from all backgrounds. We plan to hold educational workshops and meetings, and host speaking events where members can share their own personal experience and how it connects to World BEYOND War’s movement. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people feel encouraged to speak out against militarism and explore peaceful, practical alternatives.
What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with anti-war activism and WBW?
Start by doing your research and finding what speaks to you. Anti-war work takes many forms, some people are educators, others are organizers, artists, writers, or networkers. There’s no one way to be involved. Connect with others who share your ideas, stay informed with trustworthy sources, and take action in whatever way you can. Every contribution matters.
What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?
I’m driven by a belief that a better world is not only possible, but very necessary. Knowing people who have experienced the hardships and lasting consequences of war firsthand. Hearing their stories and seeing the struggles they face motivates me to work toward a future where fewer people have to endure those consequences. My goal is to help create a world where no one has to suffer the way they have, and that keeps me committed to this cause every day.
