Video: Grannies for Peace Mother’s Day Virtual Event

By World BEYOND War, May 12, 2021

In the tradition of many years of Grannies for Peace (of the Capital Region of New York State) vigils at the annual Albany Tulip Festival on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, this year we gathered virtually on May 8, 2021, to share our appeals for peace. Together, we watched a short video of diverse women reading the first Mother’s Day Proclamation, issued by Julia Ward Howe in 1870, part of the origin of Mother’s Day itself. Individual grannies then brought the Proclamation alive by speaking to some of the current issues in the world of 2021 – including the nuclear dilemma, Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, climate survival, police violence, and Grannies’ love. Due to copyright, we did not record the Marvin Gaye video that was shared during the webinar. Here is the link to watch it.
