Hundreds of people in Madison joined the nationwide People’s March movement on Saturday.

Marchers supported causes such as reproductive care access, affordable housing, immigration rights, solidarity with Palestine, protecting students from school shootings, and promoting democracy over profit.

One of the marchers, Dan, put on his Captain America gear and went by “Captain A” on Saturday.

“I want to express my anger about what is happening in the world and what our government is doing,” said Dan, who chose not to publicize his last name.

He also carried a sign that said, “Your Tax Dollars at Work.”

Dan said his sign, which showcased an American flag and several bombs, was meant to express that too much of people’s tax dollars go to military spending.

“[On the other side of my sign], I just wanted to present some alternatives to where our resources would go if we wanted to do something positive, so I’ve got ecology, mutual aid, freedom, peace and justice because you can’t have one without the other,” Dan said.

Marchers went from James Madison Park to inside the Wisconsin State Capitol to advance these causes.

Specifically, in Wisconsin, they also called for an end to Act 10.

This is a law that critics say made it harder for public sector employees to bargain collectively.

“We know that Act 10 has devastated the population of our unions in Wisconsin, so we are at 10 percent of the practicing unions that we were when Act 10 was passed 10 years ago,” said Amadi Ozier, another marcher.

“Captain A” believes this march will send a message to the incoming Trump Administration.

“We are organized and organizing,” he said. “We’re united. We have a voice and we are not going to let a fascist dictatorship come into being. Don’t push us. We’ll push back.
