In conjunction with the European Peace Project, Lex Innocentium, 21st Century and World BEYOND War Ireland acknowledged Europe Day on the 9th of May. This day was chosen as it marks eighty years since the official end of World War II. The location was the General Post Office (GPO) in Dublin, a site of great historical significance to Irish people and a place for commemoration of major events in Irish history. The European Peace Project had invited people all across Europe to read their Manifesto for Peace in their homes and in public places at 4pm Irish time (5pm in most European countries).
Members of the Irish peace initiative, Lex Innocentium, 21st Century, and World BEYOND War Ireland, read our Manifesto for Peace, in both the Irish and English languages, at the GPO, and also at the Post Office in Newbridge, Co Kildare. We called for an end to war in Europe, and across the world, for the resolution of international conflicts through peaceful arbitration and negotiation (in line with Article 29 of our Constitution), and for an end to the waste of huge amounts of money and resources being spent on war and militarization, which would be better used to improve the wellbeing of humanity and the protection of our planet.
