Arrests at Maine Christening of Aegis Destroyer, April 1, 2017

Video from Eric Herter, Brunswick, United for Peace and Justice.

On April 1st, 2017, nine peace activists were arrested while blocking the entrance to the “Christening” ceremony for a new Aegis destroyer at Bath Iron Works, a leading US naval shipyard. Aegis destroyers are an important coordinating and missile-carrying component in US nuclear and conventional war strategy. The activists and their supporters contended that the money spent on these expensive weapons systems is immoral, and that the shipyard’s workers — and the world — would be better served if they produced high-speed trains, wind-mills, and tidal generators.
