Portugal World Beyond War

World Beyond War in Portugal is coordinated by Denise Ribera Luxton.

Denise Ribera Luxton has both American and Portuguese citizenship, having grown up in Berkeley, California, then working as a member of the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon for 30 years. She was a founder member in Portugal of “Code Pink” and “Sojo” study groups, as well as organizing a Chamber Concert series (”MusicAjuda”) which raised funds for both local charities and African social projects.

Regular involvement in pro-peace rallies has seen her in London and WDC, where she was arrested in 2003, along with other Code Pink members, and charged with ‘Disturbing the Peace.’

Now retired, Denise lives with her husband on a small organic farm near Sintra.
