Hiroshima observances

Burlington VT will be holding two commemorations of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

A group of citizens, in silent witness, will call for the worldwide abolition of nuclear weapons on Sunday morning, August 6th, from 8:00 to 8:30 AM on the northwest corner of So. Prospect and Main Streets in Burlington. The first atomic bomb destroyed Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 at 8:15 AM local time.

Later in the day, the Peace and Justice Center together with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom will sponsor Songs for Hope: a walk and vigil to remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki.” We will gather at 6pm at Church St. and Pearl St. for some group singing, continue singing and walking down to the waterfront where there will be some remembrance speakers, including a short story telling event of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. The event will end with a traditional candle boat ceremony. For more information contact Robin Lloyd 802-355-3256
